About us

Behind every good journey is a story.

Our story

Ours started in 2002 when founder Ásberg Jónsson and co-founder Pálmi Jónsson turned their passion for exploration into Iceland’s first privately-owned bicycle rental and tourist information centre in downtown Reykjavik. Starting out with only a few staff in a tiny storefront, the start-up soon formed valuable business partnerships to give guests more and varied ways to explore — first in Iceland, then in the neighbouring Nordic countries and Scotland. We now have over 100 employees in our Iceland, Sweden and Scotland offices. And although we parked the bikes long ago, some things haven’t changed since our early days, including our commitment to high-quality, personal services. Are you ready to create your own Nordic story? Get started on your journey. Get to know us and our destinations better on our blog, Facebook, and other social media sites.

Our Certifications

Quality and trust are the backbone of our business, along with our other core values.

Our core values are the cornerstones of our business, and so we hold ourselves to particularly high standards of quality and trust. We want you to have the utmost confidence in booking your travel products with Nordic Visitor. For this reason we take our accreditations, certifications and professional memberships very seriously. Founded and headquartered in Iceland, Nordic Visitor is proud to be fully licensed by the Icelandic Tourist Board, hold membership with the Icelandic Travel Industry Association and to be certified by Iceland’s official quality label, Vakinn. Nordic Visitor is also involved locally in the countries of our satellite offices, Sweden and Scotland. As an Affiliate Member of the Scottish Tourism Alliance, we are proud to take part in ensuring high-quality, trustworthy and authentic experiences for visitors to Scotland. We similarly require that the businesses we work with uphold the same ambitious standards that we strive for in everything we do. As a travel agency promoting the culture and nature of the Nordic region, it is extremely important to us that we do our part to preserve our destinations, and that our visitors, employees and environment are treated with great respect. To this end, Nordic Visitor plays an active role in our local community through various CSR efforts and educational programs. If quality and trust are the backbone of our business, then our dedicated and enthusiastic staff are its heart. Nordic Visitor values its team members and is honoured to have been named “Company of the Year” by Iceland’s VR labour union in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 based on employee satisfaction and perception surveys. At Nordic Visitor, we are committed to contributing to the protection of the environment and to minimising the negative impact of the company’s business on the environment. If you would like to learn more about how we aim to do this, read our Environmental Policy here.
